About Agfa

The Agfa-Gevaert Group develops, produces and distributes an extensive range of analog and digital imaging systems and IT solutions, mainly for the printing industry and the healthcare sector, as well as for specific industrial applications.

Agfa-Gevaert has three focused business groups: Agfa Graphics, Agfa HealthCare, and Agfa Specialty Products.

Agfa's headquarters and parent company are located in Mortsel, Belgium. The company has production facilities around the world, with the largest production and research centers in Belgium, the United States, Germany and China. This global production network enables the company to meet the specific needs of each market, to limit the risk of currency fluctuations and to reduce transportation costs.

Agfa´s Materials Technology center is a central research group aiming developing new chemical compounds, formulations and production processes for the three business units within Agfa. It is an open innovation center aiming at creating added value both for Agfa Materials, Agfa Graphics and Agfa healthcare and external companies.

Agfa´s Materials Technology Center and by extension Agfa as a whole has an open attitude towards external ideas and we actively promote out-licensing Agfa-technology and offer Agfa-expertise to external parties looking for support in their materials-research and problem-solving.

AGFA GRAPHICS & INKS

Agfa Graphics designs, develops and manufactures high-performance inkjet inks & fluids for wide format sign & display printing and for various forms of inkjet printing applications. Agfa Graphics is the specialist in UV ink for industrial piezo printheads.

Agfa Graphics' research and manufacturing center, located at their Mortsel (Belgium) headquarters, builds on Agfa's extensive knowledge and expertise in chemistry, color management and dispersion technology for the development and production of premium quality inkjet inks.

Furthermore, Agfa Graphics offers a fully integrated B2B customer approach for developing custom-made inks, fine-tuned to accommodate specific inkjet applications.

ORGACON™ ELECTRONIC MATERIALS

Orgacon is the portfolio of proprietary PEDOT/PSS materials developed and produced within the Advanced Coatings & Chemical Business group of Agfa Specialty Products, and sold all around the world trough our different offices and distributors. In order to extend our portfolio for Printed Electronics, we recently introduced a new type of ink based on conductive Silver, increasing again the performances and functionalities of printable conductors.

The Orgacon line covers a wide range of products meeting the requirements of applications like antistatic protection of optical films for LCD-TV, transparent electrodes of electroluminescent backlighting, capacitive touch sensors, printed antenna's, and polymer solar cells. Our products can be customized and coated in our installation on customer's selected film.

INDUSTRIAL FOILS

Synaps is a synthetic paper of a new generation, based on a high grade polyester substrate with a high performance printable topcoat.
It combines the physical qualities of a polyester film with the 'look and feel' of a luxury paper. It excells in offset printing applications because of its superior printability and extremely fast drying. It is therefore suitable for applications with high demands on material robustness and print characteristics, and/or applications where the distinct nature of Synaps is valued.

BACKSHEET TECHNOLOGY FOR PHOTOVOLTAICS

Whereas the PV industry strives for solar modules that have different layers encapsulated together as one inseparable block, it has had to accept relatively low adhesion values between the layers of laminated backsheet. Agfa´s UNIQOAT fundamentally eliminates adhesion issues and the risk of delamination by offering the backsheet that includes all relevant functionality in one single layer : the mono-backsheet. This is achieved by using Agfa´s proprietary coating technology to modify the poly(ethylene terephtalate) (PET) surface during the PET extrusion process itself.

All UNIQOAT backsheet types are the result of this unique one-step manufacturing process. Compared to backsheet production via consecutive steps UNIQOAT holds great cost reduction potential and opportunities for further developments.
